Ten of Pentacles: Upright Meaning

The Ten of Pentacles depicts an older patriarch sitting with two loyal dogs at his feet. His children stand nearby under an archway, while his grandchild pets one of the dogs. This card symbolizes financial stability, legacy, and the joy of family connections. It reflects the culmination of hard work and the ability to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor with loved ones. It also suggests a strong sense of tradition and the sharing of wealth and wisdom across generations.

This card is also deeply connected to the role of “provider” in a family. When The Ten of Pentacles shows up in a reading, this can point towards you, a partner, or even your parents/grandparents.

Numerology and Suit Meaning:

  • In numerology, the number 10 represents both completion and new beginnings. It symbolizes the end of one cycle and the start of another, embodying the idea of continuous evolution. This dual aspect of completion emphasizes life's cyclical nature.

  • The suit of Pentacles governs the material and physical world. It has dealings with wealth, career, business, and health. This can also lead to emotional impacts on self-esteem and status.

  • Elementally, pentacles correspond with Earth. It is the physical foundation that we stand on. Much like how we till the land to grow crops and flowers, our hard work leads to material gain. At the same time, we must care for and protect our garden like how we do the same for our bodies.

Love/Relationships

The Ten of Pentacles love meaning indicates a strong, enduring bond built for the long-term. This card signifies a time when you might be considering future plans with your partner, such as marriage, starting a family, or making significant joint investments. The influence of family is also prominent, suggesting that family values and traditions may play a crucial role in your relationship choices.

If you’re not currently in a relationship, this card will more likely be related to your relationships with relatives. This could signify a stage where you have to participate in long-term planning with family members.

Money/Career

The Ten of Pentacles is a positive affirmation for career and finances, signifying long-term stability and success. This card suggests that your current career path or financial strategy will provide you with enduring security and prosperity. It may also indicate involvement in a family business or working for a well-established company that values tradition and long-term growth.

Since this card is also related to family values and legacy, this could also reflect any financial and material transactions that could be happening within the family. Examples include parents helping to pay for big purchases (like a wedding or a home), receiving an inheritance, or creating a personal will.

Spiritual/Self

Astrology

The suit of Pentacles in tarot is deeply connected to the element of Earth, representing the physical realm and material aspects of life. This association aligns with the zodiac earth signs of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, reflecting their grounded nature and practical approach to life. These earth signs embody stability, sensuality, practicality, and attention to detail. Their characteristics also mirror the Pentacles' emphasis on hard work, responsibility, and achieving goals. Together, these earth signs and the Pentacles suit remind us of the importance of grounding ourselves in reality, nurturing our physical well-being, and building a solid foundation for success and prosperity.

Note: It's important to recognize that not everyone incorporates astrology into their Tarot readings. The extent to which astrological references are used can vary greatly among readers. Each reader has a unique approach; some may draw heavily on astrological archetypes, while others might not use them at all. This information is meant to offer an additional perspective that could be helpful in your interpretations by highlighting parallels between Tarot and Astrology.

Although some argue that astrology wasn't originally part of Tarot, more modern interpretations like the Rider Waite Smith and Thoth decks may have integrated astrological concepts to align with their modern time mystical beliefs. Many contemporary decks made in this current decade also feature astrological references. Ultimately, every individual develops their own unique relationship with both Tarot and Astrology.
